The E-7 was the final production variant of the Bf 109E “Emil.” It was primarily intended to address the severe limitations of fuel capacity affecting previous variants, giving the new variant more combat endurance and operational range. This was achieved by the addition of internal fuel lines that were routed to the underside hardpoint, to which an external fuel tank could be fitted - though it was still able to function as an effective “Jabo” fighter bomber like its predecessors. Additionally, some later production E-7s were fitted with a new engine, which gave better high altitude performance. All told, these upgrades did much to help the Emil keep pace with the evolution of RAF fighters such as the Supermarine Spitfire, and the E-7 saw action in occupied Europe, the Eastern Front, North Africa and the Mediterranean until being phased out in 1942.
The landing gear can be modelled as lowered or retracted, as well as optional bladeless propeller spinners to represent the aircraft in flight.
