Spitfire Mk.I (Early) Hangar Edition

£8.29
Only 4 available

Kit Features:

  • 1x Supermarine Spitfire

  • Full colour instructions

  • Decals by Cartograf

  • 2x Marking Schemes Included

The most numerous of all British fighter aircraft produced during the Second World War, the Spitfire was conceived as a high speed interceptor by R. J. Mitchell, chief engineer of Supermarine. The first prototype flew in 1936 and made an instant impression. Its iconic elliptical wing and elegant lines made it a favourite of the day, and the aircraft continues to be widely admired for its beauty and power today. The initial production Spitfire was powered by the Rolls Royce Merlin MkII V12 engine, turning a Watts two bladed wooden propeller. However this propeller was designed for high speed, and proved to be problematic at low speed and was therefore replaced quickly during service. Operational service began with No. 19 Squadron based at RAF Duxford in 1938, who were later thrust into the thick of the action during the Battle of Britain.

The landing gear can be modelled as lowered or retracted, as well as optional bladeless propeller spinners to represent the aircraft in flight.

This kit contains high quality waterslide decal markings made by Cartograf, for two aircraft:

  • Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I, K9795, No. 19 Squadron,  RAF Duxford, October 1938

  • Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I, K9799, No. 19 Squadron, RAF Duxford, May 1939
