Kit Features:
In 1941 the RAF realised that the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V was being dangerously outclassed by new Luftwaffe fighters – principally the Focke-Wulfe FW190. Losses were high, and a new and more powerful fighter was needed to meet this threat. Various developments culminated in the Spitfire Mk.IX, which entered production in 1942 with its powerful Merlin 61, 66 and 70 series engines which provided drastically improved climb rate, top speed and service ceiling. This Spitfire variant was in service for the rest of the war, and among all Spitfire marks, it is widely regarded by RAF and Commonwealth pilots as one of the best of all Spitfires ever built.
“Flying Dray” is a nickname given to some Spitfires that engaged in the informal transport of beer in casks attached to bomb racks, flown across the channel from British breweries to bases in France. They were a welcome morale booster for troops on the front line of the Allied invasion of Europe.
This kit contains high quality waterslide decal markings made by Cartograf, for two aircraft:
